Ann Fruhling - Associate Professor

Dr. Ann Fruhling

Ann L. Fruhling is an Associate Professor of the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO), College of Information Science and Technology. She teaches core courses in the Management Information Management undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs. In 2007, she received the UNO Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. Fruhling is a member of the Association for Information Systems and serves on the Executive Board for the AIS IT in Healthcare Special Interest Group. Dr. Fruhling was also a research scholar for Northrop Grumman on the C2SES project located at USSTRATCOM.

Her research areas includes: agile system development, implementation and management strategies, e-health user interface usability studies and system design strategies for medical emergency response systems.

She has published several research articles in the areas of agile system development, emergency response systems, and user interface usability. Her research studies have appeared in publications including Journal Management Information Systems, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, International Journal of Electronic Health Care, International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems, Journal of Electronic Commerce Research and Journal of Information Technology Theory and Application. She also has book chapters in Value Based Software Engineering, Patient-Centered E-Health, and Advances in Management Information Systems and numerous conference papers. Recently, she published "Best Practices for Implementing Agile Methods: A Guide for Department of Defense Software Developers" for the IBM Center for The Business of Government.

Since 2002, Dr. Fruhling has been the Chief Principal Investigator for a Distributed Video Diagnostics and Consultation System for Public Health Laboratories called STATPack™. STATPack™ is used in cases of emergencies and biosecurity-related threats. To date, STATPack™ emergency response systems have been implemented in three States and 53 public health, water, food, and veterinary laboratories. In addition, Dr. Fruhling is the Director of the Consortium for Public Health Informatics (CPHI). CPHi's mission is to be a Nebraska-focused information resource designed to provide real time, interactive access to public health data, connect academic researchers and public health professionals, build on current collaborations on healthcare research and enhance the linkage between public policy and academic research.

Dr. Fruhling holds a Ph.D. in MIS from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, a MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
