PEER EVALUATION SHEETS

Each team member is asked to rate the other team members regarding their contribution to the total team effort. The total team effort may include: leadership; arranging meetings, gathering data; searching for useful background and input materials (library, interviews, etc.); contributing creative ideas and solution suggestions; running computer jobs; arranging oral presentations; preparing computer prototypes; generating reports and screens; walkthroughs with users or project leader; preparing for and/or giving presentations to clients; writing, coordinating, and editing written project materials, and so forth. The objective of teamwork is for each member to carry a fair share of the workload and to contribute their individual strengths and expertise.

In addition to the numeric ratings on the peer evaluation sheets, each team member is required to submit a short written statement which justifies his/her evaluation of the group members. The purpose of the written justification is to enable the instructor to gain valuable insight into group interaction dynamics and provide for a more realistic grade differential.

"Blanket" grades and ratings, while acceptable, are very much discouraged. Be fair and accurate in your ratings, carefully assessing the contribution of individuals over the entire project. Be sure to rate yourself as well in all categories.

Explanation of the 4 measures:

  • Rating of individual potential: Assess each group team member’s actual contribution to the team effort for each milestone relative to what you feel they had the potential to contribute. This measure rates each group team member independent of other team members. Consider 100% to be the maximum contribution. Rate yourself as well.
  • Rating relative to other team members: Assess the actual contribution of each group team member for each milestone relative to the total actual contributions of all team members to the total team effort. This rating takes into account all activities involved in the project effort. A total allocation of 100 points is to be distributed among all team members including yourself.
  • Project grade: Based on the overall team effort and on the stated criteria for project submission, and on your knowledge of individual performance, what grade would YOU assign each team member, including yourself? Assign “A” for superior contribution/performance, “B” for above average contribution/performance, “C” for average participation in group activities, and “D” for substandard, less-than-acceptable performance relative to the total group effort.
  • Written narrative: Provide a verbal description of the reasons why you assigned the ratings. Feel free to add any remarks, comments, situations, justifications, etc., which will explain your reasoning in the evaluation process. Your narrative may be as long or short as you prefer. Prepare this narrative for each milestone!
This evaluation is to be completed by each individual group member. They are due on the due date of each associated milestone. Please hand them to me personally or place them in my mailbox. These evaluations are confidential and will NOT be shown to anybody else, be they in your group or not.
